Looking for a loyal couch companion who'll happily join you for an adventure and then curl up beside you afterward? Meet Willoughby. He's a handsome 7–8 year old lab mix, rescued from Texas, and he's got two sides to him: the adventurous hiking buddy and the devoted couch potato. Both are worth having.

The basics

• 7–8 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccines

• Takes a daily dose of fluoxetine for anxiety

• Apartment friendly — his house manners are excellent and he's genuinely relaxed indoors

• Sleeps independently in his crate and will often take himself there

• Muzzle trained and does very well with it

What he's like

Willoughby is a total velcro dog when he's in the mood for affection, and perfectly content with his own space when he isn't. He loves to cuddle but won't pester you for it. Once trust is established he's comfortable with all the handling that matters — ears, nails, baths, even someone touching his food.

That last part comes with an honest note: he isn't food aggressive or possessive with people, but he will growl over food around other dogs.

His ideal home

Adults only. Willoughby gets skittish when children get into his personal space and can become snappy about it. A child-free home isn't a preference here, it's a requirement.

Other dogs: He's very good with small dogs. He can be more standoffish with large dogs, so slow introductions and careful matching matter.

Cats: He currently lives with two cats, separated, and he's curious about them. We'd recommend a home without cats.

Willoughby isn't looking for a perfect home. He's looking for a patient person who'll let him build trust at his own pace. Give him that, and he's a wonderfully loving, relaxed companion with a great deal of affection to give. He just needs to know he's safe first.
